Nurturing and Inspiring Children of all Ages

Written by

Children of all ages call the Northshore home, and it is here on the Northshore that families with children will find many outlets to satisfy their educational, creative and health needs. From state parks to recreational facilities, to playgrounds, to bike trails, children can see alligators in their natural habitat by day, and play their favorite sports on a lighted field by night.

Arenas created to specifically nurture hands-on learning abound here on the Northshore. The Louisiana Children’s Discovery Center in Hammond, is awash with interactive displays that simultaneously entertain and educate. Currently in the planning stages, St. Tammany Parish is slated to see its own interactive children’s museum in the very near future. An idea initially given life by the Junior League of Greater Covington (JLGC), and now designated the league’s Signature Project, the four core principles of the Children’s Museum of St. Tammany will be discover, explore, create and learn. It will sit strategically at the Tammany Trace Koop Drive Trailhead, to the immediate North of I-12. The ultimate mission of the JLGC and the Children’s Museum of St. Tammany will be to create a fun and inspiring place for entire families to enjoy, and contribute to the ongoing legacy of the consummate learning environment in St. Tammany Parish.

The atmosphere of well-being coupled with well-roundedness is prevalent on the Northshore. Cutting edge medical facilities featuring specialists ranging from pediatric dentistry, orthodontics, psychology and psychiatry and pediatric medicine, to neurofeeback (brain training) to lessen symptoms of certain behavioral disorders, give parents tools to maintain physical wellness. Cultural events and educational museums enhance learning all in the spirit of fun and give children opportunities on all fronts.

As innovations in education and recreation continue to evolve, the Northshore will remain a haven for nurturing and inspiring many generations of healthy, happy children.
