Charter Hero Award—Jack MurphyJack Murphy, HERO Award Winner June 2012

St. Paul’s High School

High school senior Jack Murphy of St. Paul’s in Covington has had his hands in just about everything environmental, musical and creative.

As a sophomore, he founded a school-wide recycling program, he has taught piano to mentally challenged children,

he is a member of the New Orleans Junior Philharmonic Society which is invitation only, and as a junior, he created a 400 square foot vegetable garden, of which the produce is donated to a local food bank. “As a kid, I loved the outdoors, so gardening gave me a chance to channel my passions,” he says.

Jack has earned many accolades, including the Eric Kolb Award, given to the student at St. Paul’s who exhibits extraordinary talent in music and computers, and the Golden Torch Award for the student who is active in the school community and exhibits academic excellence.

Jack plans to attend Davidson College in North Carolina where he will pursue a degree in Environmental Studies and a minor in music, and ultimately earn an advanced degree in agriculture. “I hope to help open new doors in the agriculture industry in this country.” Congratulations to Jack Murphy, our June 2012 Charter Business HERO award winner.
